Fuck Kale! Feeling Sexy is the Well of Energy You’ve Been Looking For

Sitting here. Literally munching on kale chips as I type this because - even though I went for the clickbaity subject line - KALE IS NOT THE ENEMY.

You know what is? Feeling like you’re a literal hamster on a teeny-weeny hamster wheel from hell, burnt out by the repetitive, monotonous, to-do list filled days that just keep rolling out…

So often, I see women in my practice who want to fix their low energy and general low-interest in life with kale or grain-free crackers or dairy-free yogurt.

And while these luscious, hippy-tastic, delights will likely ease some of the stress on your digestive system, they can’t fix your life. That’s too much pressure to put on flour made out of a root. TOO MUCH PRESSURE!

Here’s what happens when we put that kind of pressure on food:

  1. It’s doesn’t work

  2. When it doesn’t work, you feel like you’ve done something wrong/missed something important/haven’t found the right info and so you try harder, work harder, milk more nuts, rice more cauliflower, cut more things out - until you’re working harder and spending more money and bleeding more energy than ever before.

Go ahead and eat well. You know I’m a big proponent of feeding your body great food and making adjustments to your eating in order to feel better. #salad4lyfe

But also - I want you to think about the last time you felt really LIT UP: inspired, energetic, full of generosity, beauty, flow, and inspiration. I want you to remember how you felt in your body in that moment and the amount of ENERGY you had... and if you can genuinely give all the credit for that energy to a leafy green.

What I want to suggest to you instead is that your deepest, most sustainable well of un-ending energy can be found in your TURN ON. Sexy is part of your turn on, for sure, but it's also so much more. It's your connection to the things that make you feel vibrant, beautiful, playful and excited to be alive.

How can you access this Duracell battery of the body? Try this exercise I learned from Gina Ogden, via Esther Perel:

Ask yourself:

“I turn myself on when….”

and

I turn myself off when…”

Write out all the things that YOU do for YOU that turn you on and turn you off (as in shut you down, close you off, make you feel flat and tired).

And see what you find!

Someone asked the question "When do you feel sexy?" on IG the other day and the answers were so good!!! Everything from "When I'm changing the tires on my car" to "wearing overalls" to "dancing", and more conventional things like when dressed-up, in red lipstick, or wearing lingerie.

As Mama Gena says, sexy "is simply about feeling the way you feel when you are choosing to enjoy your body – vital, alive, beautiful. Turned on".

It you want to feel more energetic (and confident and connected), bravely go after your sexy. Your turn on. Seek it out, court it, and tend to it.

And then sprinkle some kale on it.

XO
