Travelling - The Healthy-ish Way.

The gurgling in my belly started somewhere over Memphis (or maybe Nashville?). A 10-hour travel day had quickly turned into 22 when bad weather in Toronto decimated the flight schedule out of Houston - and I was trying to keep it together as the Mexico City street food effect (that had felled two of my travel companions completely) seemed to be finally catching up with me.

Luckily, I had zero nausea or chills and I made it home before the poops really kicked in. A win of epic proportions! Even better, after only a couple of days of relatively mild discomfort I was feeling back to myself.

Now - there are LOTS of reasons why I might have been spared in the great taco and tortas toot-fest of CDMX but I'm fairly certain that my supplement regime helped me out. So let me share!

[Disclaimer: I'm a naturopath but I'm not YOUR naturopath because this is just a newsletter! You know that. Be sure to check in with your MD or ND before putting yourself on supps, my friend!]

Here are my top 6 supplements for travel:

  1. Propolis throat spray: to keep from catching something on the plane and support my immune system while away.

  2. Probiotic: To keep those good gut bacterias UP! I like this one because it's shelf stable so you don't need to worry about refrigeration.

  3. Oregano Oil: Great for the immune system in general and particularly for fending off traveller's diarrhea. I typically also travel with digestive oils as they really help with minor stomach irritation and bloating from delicious but novel foods:)

  4. Charcoal with Ginger: fab to have on hand if bigger digestive issues start! Charcoal is a binder than can help with eliminating the bugs that cause the tummy upset and loose stool.

  5. Electrolytes: For staying hydrated on long travel (and/or Mezcal heavy) days.

  6. Melatonin with 5HTP and L-theanine: For sleep, yo! And also great for anxiety... which I can get when I'm travellin'.

I also recorded a full podcast on travelling the Healthy-ish way. The episode covers a f-ton of skin care, hydration, digestive management, supplementation, and Qs about how to stay on track with food when you're in new and exciting places. And I, of course, also wanted to connect the dots between energy, space, and CLOTHES. This Healthy-ish take is DIFFERENT and it's SO FRIGGIN GOOD. If you have any trips on the horizon, it's worth a listen.

Kk. Enough all caps for now. I'll stop shouting at you and get back to work.

XO
